Introduction
Sythra (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates a machine learning education platform that includes courses, labs, projects, AI tutoring, and progress tracking.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using Sythra, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly, data generated through your learning activity, and limited technical information needed to run the service securely.
- Account details such as name, email address, and authentication credentials when you register or sign in (including via Google or GitHub OAuth).
- Profile information you choose to add, including avatar images and display preferences.
- Learning activity including course progress, topic mastery, lab submissions, project code, checkpoint snapshots, XP, streaks, and assignment results.
- GitHub connection data when you link an account for project submissions (username, repository URLs, and webhook-related metadata).
- Communications you send to us, including support requests and feedback.
- Technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, and approximate usage timestamps collected in server logs.
How we use your information
We use your information to deliver and improve the learning experience, not to sell your personal data.
- Authenticate you and maintain your account and session security.
- Provide courses, labs, Project Studio workspaces, and AI tutoring features.
- Grade submissions, run code in our execution environment, and generate feedback.
- Track progress, streaks, levels, and personalized recommendations such as focus areas.
- Send essential service messages (for example, account or security notices).
- Monitor platform performance, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms of Use.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
AI features & learning data
Sythra uses AI services (including OpenAI) to power tutoring, explanations, and project validation. When you interact with these features, relevant context — such as topic summaries, your messages, and submitted code — may be sent to our AI providers to generate a response.
We apply usage limits to AI features to control cost and abuse. Do not submit sensitive personal information, passwords, or confidential employer data into AI chat or code editors.
AI outputs are generated automatically and may be inaccurate. They are provided for educational purposes and should not be treated as professional advice.
Third-party services
We rely on trusted infrastructure and integration partners to operate Sythra. These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations.
- Authentication and hosting (for example, Vercel and Auth.js / OAuth providers).
- Database and storage (MongoDB Atlas).
- AI processing (OpenAI).
- GitHub (repository linking, templates, and submission webhooks when you use GitHub-based projects).
- Cloud media storage (Cloudinary) when you upload images.
- Code execution services used to run Python in labs and Project Studio.
Data retention
We retain your account and learning data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service.
You may request deletion of your account. Some information may be retained in backups or logs for a limited period for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
- Update profile information from your account settings where available.
- Disconnect third-party integrations such as GitHub from your profile.
- Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of your data.
- Opt out of non-essential communications where applicable.
Children's privacy
Sythra is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Security
We implement administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls on production systems.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your credentials confidential.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the platform or by email.
Continued use of Sythra after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
